The ER & America

The emergency department is where every American policy failure eventually walks through the door — gun violence, addiction, homelessness, climate, the uninsured. I write about the ER because the ER is where America stops being abstract: the patients nobody else will touch, the deaths nobody wants to describe, the bill nobody can pay.
